WO-S’ Dupree snags silver in high jump

AUSTIN — Orange County tracksters wrapped up a tremendous season Saturday by competing in the University Interscholastic League’s Class 4A State Track & Field Championships at The University of Texas.
West Orange-Stark’s Jared Dupree matched his season-high in the high jump, going 6-7 to capture the silver medal.
Cuero’s Khouri Walker captured the gold, just nipping Dupree with a 6-8 effort. Stafford’s Caleb Parker was third. He also went 6-7 but Dupree had fewer misses.
The WO-S Lady Mustangs’ 800-meter relay team consisting of Betty McDonald, Shavontae Thomas, Diamond Judge and Aaliyah Teel placed a solid fourth, just missing a medal by running a time of 1:42.36. District 24-4A rival Hardin-Jefferson took the gold by running a 1:40.38.
Lady Mustang Aaliyah Teel claimed fifth in the 100 meters, running a 12.08. Dallas Carter’s Sha’Carri Richardson ran a blazing 11.58 to capture the gold.
The Lady Mustang 1,600-meter relay squad consisting of Teel, Thomas, Mercedes Fezia and Taylor Colbert placed seventh with a clocking of 4:08.61. Liberty Hil won the race in 3:57.16.
Bridge City’s Hunter Denton, the District 24-4A and Region III champion in the long jump, finished a solid fifth by going 22 feet, 6 ½ inches. Texarkana’s Denzel Green nabbed first with a 23-10 ¾ effort.
Denton came back later Saturday night to finish eighth in the 200 meters, running a 23.6. Dallas Carter’s Demarviae Gray captured first place with a time of 21.48.
