AUSTIN — It was a golden kind of season for Deweyville senior Mallory Dotson.
Dotson, who has had a tremendous run in a Lady Pirate track uniform made sure she was going to close it out with a great showing at the University Interscholastic League’s State Track & Field Championships.
On Thursday, Dotson waltzed away with the Class 3A gold medal in the girls discus.
Dotson converted a toss of 138 feet, 3 inches on her fifth toss to easily take home the ultimate medal.
Littlefield’s Kaylee Edgemon was second with a 131-0 effort while Whitesboro’s Mikayla Morris was third, also with a 131-0 effort.
Dotson was far from done as she picked up another gold by capturing the shot put Friday with an amazing effort of 43-4 ½. She did that on her fifth throw of the day.
Whitewright’s Zada Swoopes was a very close second with a distance of 43-0.
Deweyville’s Holli Shanon finished ninth in the 3A high jump as she went 4-10. Merkel’s Abigail Lally won with a 5-6 effort.
