SWAT teams compete in state-wide tactical competition and training conference

Every year the Louisiana Tactical Officers Association (LTPOA) sponsors a state-wide tactical competition and training conference. This year the event was hosted by Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office in Gonzales LA on Tuesday May 3, 2016. 16 teams from across the state including Baton Rouge Police Department, Louisiana State Police, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Lake Charles Police Department competed for the title of best SWAT Team in the State.

Each Team consisted of 6 competitors, 5 entry team members and 1 sniper. The teams competed in a one-day competition which centered on several categories consisting of rifle, pistol, shotgun, sniper and an obstacle course. Those results are used to determine the top overall finishers. After a full day of competition the results were tabulated and the top teams announced at the LTPOA Banquet Wednesday May 4, 2016.

Lake Charles Police SWAT Team placed 3rd in Pistol, 2nd in Rifle, 2nd in Obstacle Course and 1st Place in the Sniper Competition. These combined scores resulted in a 1st place overall victory for the Lake Charles Police Department Team allowing them to claim the title of Best SWAT Team in the State. Baton Rouge Police SWAT placed 2nd overall and Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office placed 3rd overall.
