Education First Federal Credit Union and the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Southeast Texas announced yesterday that its 2016 MDA Shamrocks fundraising program raised $2,594.99 to help free kids and adults from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases.

From February 15th through March 18th Education First participated in the nation’s largest St. Patrick’s Day fundraising program in which members purchased an iconic paper MDA Shamrock for just a $1, $5 or a larger contribution with our tellers. Each Shamrock was signed by generous members and prominently displayed in each branch, symbolizing strength, independence and life for MDA families in the community.

“Once again, Education First Federal Credit Union and their members and employees have gone above and beyond to make a meaningful difference for people whose everyday freedoms – like walking, talking and even breathing – have been taken away by neuromuscular diseases,” said Fundraising Coordinator Sophie Freeman “It is because of their generosity that MDA is able to provide lifesaving research and support to help these individuals and their families live longer, grow stronger and experience a world without any limits.”

The 2016 MDA Shamrocks program united tens of thousands of retail locations throughout the country to benefit the organization’s shared mission to find research breakthroughs across diseases; care for kids and adults from day one; and empower families with services and support in hometowns across America. We are proud to be a part of this campaign.

Education First Federal Credit Union is a community credit union with 34,000 members. Membership is open to individuals who live, work, worship or attend school in our field of membership, including Jefferson, Jasper, Hardin, Newton, Orange and Tyler counties.
