Lady Cardinals rumble past WO-S

WEST ORANGE — Only the Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks now stand in the way from the red-hot Bridge City Lady Cardinals, who can wrap up their District 24-4A Championship run with a perfect district record after the Lady Cardinals strummed the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs 19-1 in three innings at Lady Mustang Field Friday night.

The Lady Cardinals (11-0 in 24-4A play) will close out the regular season at home today against Hardin-Jefferson at 11 a.m. as they will look to get out the brooms to sweep away all 24-4A competition.

The Lady Cardinals had no problems against the Lady Mustangs, who slipped to 0-11 in 24-4A play.

Bridge City picked up 10 hits in the lopsided victory.

Abby Anderson paced the Lady Cardinals at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

Kassidy Wilbur was 2-for-3, scored three runs and drove in another.

Peyton Trapp, who also got the win on the hill by allowing just two hits, was 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBI. Hanna Carpenter was 1-for-3 and scored twice.

Meagan Sourdellia and Abby Faulk each went 1-for-3 and scored. Baili Thibodaux was 1-for-4 and scored twice.

Caitlin Denison and Lauren Groom each scored three runs apiece.

After today’s game with H-J, the Lady Cardinals will dive into Class 4A Region III bidistrict play next week when they take o the Cleveland Lady Indians, the fourth-place team out of District 23-4A.

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville girls (5-6), who dropped a 3-0 decision to Silsbee in Jasper on Thursday night, can tie Orangefield for the fourth-place berth, if they can defeat Hardin-Jefferson in Sour Lake Monday at 4:30 p.m.
