Collision involving garbage truck closes FM 2802 for an hour

PRESS RELEASE — At approximately 8:45am, there was a two vehicle crash on FM 2802 near Highway 62 in Orange County.
A 2007 Mack garbage truck, owned by Sprint Waste Services of Sugarland, was traveling westbound on FM 2802.  The driver of the garbage truck slowed down to make a left turn and was struck from behind by a 1999 Ford F250 pickup truck.
The driver of the Ford pickup truck, Alexander Burnett, 23, of Silsbee, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital. Burnett is being treated for head and neck injuries.  The driver of the garbage truck, Robert LaFleur, 44, of Beaumont, received minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital by private vehicle.
FM 2802 was closed for about an hour, but has since reopened.
Burnett was issued a traffic citation for failure to control speed.
