BC’s Thayer dominant in 24-4A field events day

WEST ORANGE — It was a solid day for Orange County tracksters at the District 24-4A Track & Field Championships Monday in the field events portion of the meet, especially for Bridge City Lady Cardinal Kaitlin Thayer.

Thayer set a new school-record in the discus, winning the event with a toss of 116 feet, five inches and she also powered her way to a first-place finish in the shot put with a heave of 37-10 ¾.

Bridge City’s Hunter Denton had a superb day on the boys side, winning the long jump with an effort of 22-3 ¾. He was also second in the triple jump with a mark of 43-11 ½.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville’s Trey Guillory won the boys long jump with a strong 45-2 effort. West Orange-Stark’s Jared Dupre took home the high jump crown with a leap of 6-4.

On the girls’ side, Orangefield’s Brooklyn Goldsmith captured the pole vault by going 10 feet.

The 24-4A running finals will take place Thursday at 6 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.

Throgh the field events, the LC-M boys were in first-place with 42 points followed by Hamshire-Fannett (34), Hardin-Jefferson (31), Bridge City (26), WO-S (23), Silsbee (15) and Orangefield (14).

The Hamshire-Fannett girls were in first-place with 50 points followed by Orangefield (40), Bridge City (38), Hardin-Jefferson (22), Silsbee (18) and WO-S (18).
