Lady Cardinals slip past Lady Bobcats in 8

BRIDGE CITY —The Bridge City Lady Cardinals held off the Orangefield Lady Bobcats again 7-6 in a eight-inning battle at Lady Cardinal Field Friday night to remain undefeated in District 24-4A play.

The Lady Cardinals (24-2, 7-0) went ahead quick, scoring five runs in the first six innings but the Lady Bobcats would fight back to pull ahead by one run in the top of the seventh.

Caitlin Denison came through in the clutch with a single to start a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh.

Meagan Sourdellia, Ashton Sezer, and Maggie Garcia would then string back to back singles together to score the tying run sending the game into the eighth inning.

The Lady Bobcats would threaten the with two singles in the top of the 8th although stranded two runners on base.

Baili Thibodaux led off for the Cardinals in the bottom of the 8th with a single, Faith Kaufman would reach on a fielders choice, and Kaylee Ancelot loaded the bases by walking Hannah Carpenter with no outs on the board. A wild pitch would end the game with Kassidy Wilbur at bat allowing Baili Thibodaux to score the winning run resulting in a final score of 7-6.

Outstanding hitters for the Lady Cardinals were Ashton Sezer 3-for-4, Baili Thibodaux 2-for-5, Faith Kaufman 1-for-5 with 2 RBIs, and Maggie Garcia 1-for-4 with 1 RBI. Kassidy Wilbur received the win on the mound recording 8 strikeouts.

The Lady Bobcats slipped to 3-4 in 24-4A play despite a superb effort.

Autumn Frost had a home run and two RBI for the Lady Bobcats.

Maleah Saucedo slapped a double and drove in three runs. Jewell Kelley smashed a homerun. Morghan Kelley and Kaylee Ancelot each had two singles.

Haley Fontenot had a double while Karlye Bramblett and Kristin Broussard each had singles.
