UPDATED: Auto-Pedestrian Crash on Interstate 10 Leaves One Dead

PRESS RELEASE — On April 3, 2016, at approximately 10:00pm, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of an auto-pedestrian crash on Interstate 10 near mile marker 861 in Orange County.

It appears that a pedestrian was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 before being struck by a passenger vehicle.

A 2012 Ford truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling westbound on Interstate 10.  A pedestrian attempted to cross the westbound traffic lanes of Interstate 10 when he was struck by the truck tractor semi-trailer.

The pedestrian, Barry Gene Briggs (60) of Vidor, was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Simonton.  The driver of the truck tractor semi-trailer, Randy Thompson (38) of Florida, was not injured in the crash.

Westbound traffic on Interstate 10 near mile marker 861 was reduced down to one lane.  Within two hours, all westbound traffic lanes were reopened.
