Lady Cardinals take down WO-S

BRIDGE CITY — The first-place Bridge City Lady Cardinals wrapped up the first half of District 24-4A play with a 15-5 in victory in five innings over the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs at Lady Cardinal Field Tuesday night.

The Lady Cardinals (23-2, 6-0) picked up seven hits and took advantage of 12 walks to stroll past the Lady Mustangs (0-6 in district).

Peyton Trapp got the win on the hill for the Lady Cardinals as she scattered three hits while striking out four and walking six.

Madison Neal absorbed the loss on the mound for the Lady Mustangs.

The Lady Mustangs snagged a pair of runs in the top half of the first inning.
Sidnee Lewis drew a leadoff walk and Aaliyah Teel roped a single to
shallow left and Madison Neal walked to load the bases.
Lewis came in to score on a illegal pitch. Tianna Mims reached on an
error at third as Teel darted in to score.
The Lady Cardinals scratched in three runs in the bottom of the first.
Faith Kaufman drew a one-out walk and Hannah Carpenter reached on an
infield single.
Kaufman scored on a wild pitch. Kassidy Wilbur drew a walk and then
Carpenter scored on a double steal as Wilbur was thrown out at second.
After Caitlin Denison drew a walk, Meagan Sourdellia smacked a RBI
double to deep centerfield.
Bridge City tallied four runs in the bottom of the second.
Trapp and Lauren Groom drew back to back walks. Abby Anderson put down
a nice sacrifice bunt and an errant throw to first allowed Trapp and
Grom to score. Anderson eventually scored on a wild pitch to make it
6-2.
Kaufman walked and scored on a hard-hit RBI single to center by Wilbur.
The Lady Cardinals tacked on two runs in bottom of the third.
Sourdellia had a leadoff walk and scored when Trapp cracked a single
to deep rightfield.
After Groom drew a walk, the Lady Cardinals tried another double steal
. Trapp scored to make it 9-2 as Groom was thrown out at third.
WO-S snared three runs in the top of the fourth.
Destinee Stewart hit a deep shot to right and beat the throw out for a
triple and scored on a wild pitch.
Teel reached on a fielder’s choice and with one out, Neal ripped a
Trapp offering for a two-run home run over the centerfield fence.
The Lady Cardinals reached out and scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth.
After Kaufman walked, Carpenter took a Neal pitch and buried it over
the left-centerfield fence for a two-run homer. With two outs,
Sourdellia and Maggie Garcia drew back to back walks. Trapp plated
Sourdellia with a standup double to rightfield.
After Groom walked, Anderson scored two more runs with an infield
single and Groom would score on a wild pitch.

The Lady Cardinals will be at home again Friday when they play host to Orangefield while WO-S will make a short trip to LC-M.
