Lady Longhorns zip past WO-S

WEST ORANGE – The West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs kept up with the Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns in the hitting category but too many errors proved costly as the Lady Mustangs fell 11-0 in five innings in District 24-4A action at Lady Mustang Field Thursday night.

The Lady Longhorns 1-4 in district, had five hits in their win while the Lady Mustangs, 0-5 in district, had four.

However, the Lady Mustangs had nine errors, issued eight walks, six passed balls, and three hit batters that hampered them throughout the game.

The Lady Longhorns scored six runs on just three hits and took advantage of four WO-S errors in the top of the fourth inning to break up a scoreless game.

Callie Saurage drew a leadoff walk, swiped second and third and scored on a passed ball for the first run.

Jacie Harris reached o a dropped fly ball in centerfield and Brooke Cardell was hit by a pitch and Dusti Hana walked to load the bases.

With two outs, Madison Ramsey roped a two-run single to center. Katherine Peyton then hit a grounder, that ended up being a two-run error and Amanda Fountain made it 6-0 with a RBI double to center.

The Lady Longhorns tacked on five runs in the top of the ffith on just one hit.

Harris drew a walk and Cardell was hit by a pitch. Harris scored on a passed ball to make it 7-0.

After Hanna drew a walk, Cardell scored on a double steal.

Ramsey then drew a walk, Peyton reached on a error and Fountain walked to load the bases.

Ramsey scored on a wild pitch. Peyton scored on a passed ball and Saurage stroked a RBI single to finish out the scoring.

Lexi Holt and Tiana Mims put singles together for WO-S in the botto of the second but were left stranded.

Sidnee Lewis and Madison Neal each had singles for WO-S in the bottom of the third.

Cassidy Thrash went all five innings on the mound for H-F, scattering four hits while fanning seven.

Neal and Mallory Jackson pitched for WO-S, which will travel to Bridge City in 24-4A play Tuesday.
