Baseball wrap: Cards take down Bears; H-J nips OF

LITLE CYPRESS — The Bridge City Cardinals are looking to repeat as District 24-4A champions and the Redbirds got of to a flying start last Friday by going on the road and downing the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears 10-5 at Gibbens Field.

The Cardinals erupted for five runs in the top of the fourth inning as they built a 9-1 lead before holding off a late LC-M rally.

Tod McDowell got the win on the hill for the Cardinals and he also had a big two-run double in the fourth frame while Kevin Gordon pitched well in relief.

Tanner Doiron also had a two-run double for the Cardinals.

Drake Trawhon had a two-run double for the Bears, now 1-1 in 24-4A play, while Grant White also drove in a run.

The Cardinals host Silsbee Tuesday while the Bears visit Silsbee Friday.

SOUR LAKE — The Orangefield Bobcats dropped a tough 9-8 District 24-4A decision to the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks last Friday.

The Bobcats outhit the Hawks 10-7 but five errors hampered Orangefield in the defeat.

Dylan Anthony went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, two runs batted in and two runs scored.

Andrew Hoyland was 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in a run. Payton Lathrop was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Brett Fregia was 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Blake Bradley was 1-for-4 and Johnny Armstrong 1-for-2. Ryan Deutsch scored a run while Mason Gonzales drove in one.

The Bobcats will host West Orange-Stark Tuesday.

In sotall action on Friday, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats fell to Hardin-Jefferson 4-0 in 24-4A play in Sour Lake.
