Special to The Leader
ORANGEFIELD — GetDaNet Fishing Club broke with convention and hosted two separate bass tournaments in February.
Shift Division
Bobby Granger hosted a Thursday tournament for shift-workers on February 11 on Lake Sam Rayburn with a weigh-in at San Augustine Park. Despite excellent pre-fishing results, the participants found tournament day conditions to be enigmatic.
Tommy Ferguson supplied the biggest bag with 4 fish weighing 7.16 lbs. to take 1st place. Bryan Tarver was a close 2nd at 6.83 lbs. with Robert Granger, Sr. in 3rd with 6.35 lbs. Walt Simmons brought in the biggest bass of the day with a nice 5.31-lb. specimen. Bryan Tarver’s 2nd-place big bass provided the lion’s share of his stringer weight at 5.04 lb.
Regular Division
The regular club tournament was held on Saturday, February 13 on Lake Sam Rayburn with weigh-in at Cassells-Boykin Park. The newcomer father-and-son duo of Ty and Trent Manuel enjoyed an excellent first club outing with a 1st-place bag weight of 16.52 lbs. To top off their stringer win, Trent turned in the Big Bass of the day with a 6.38-lb. specimen and Ty brought in a 2nd-place Big Bass weighing 2.90 lbs.
The team of Chris Baggett and Troy Saunders landed 5 fish weighing 11.96 lbs. to take 2nd-place honors in the stringer competition. Baggett rounded out the top 3 Big Bass spots with a 2.50-lb. fish.
Less-Than-Honorable Mentions
While pre-fishing for his Thursday tournament, Bobby Granger managed to land an excellent fish weighing about 5-1/2 lbs. However, on tournament day, he decided to forego luck and trust only in his fishing skills and landed no fish in any way comparable to that beauty.
Similarly, on Saturday, Marc Wernig caught a single fish, estimated to weigh 3-1/2 lbs., in his first 10 minutes of fishing. This fish would have likely put him in the winner’s bracket as it would have contended for 2nd place in Big Bass. He snatched defeat from the jaws of victory when a truck tire blow-out prevented him from reaching the weigh-in before the deadline.
March Tournament
GetDaNet is now planning for its March tournaments to be held on Toledo Bend Reservoir out of Fin-and-Feather Resort the weekend of March 12, 2016.
