Bicyclist Struck on IH-10 Service Road at Adams Bayou Inbox x

At approximately 12:15am, the Texas Department of Public Safety received a report of a crash between a bicyclist and a motor vehicle on the eastbound service road of Interstate 10 at Adams Bayou in Orange.  The crash involved a police officer with the Orange Police Department.

Initial reports indicate that the bicyclist was traveling west in the outside traffic lane of the eastbound service road of Interstate 10 at Adams Bayou.  The police officer was traveling east in the outside lane of the eastbound service road.  As the bicyclist traveled facing oncoming traffic, he was struck by the police officer.  According to witnesses, the bicycle did not have any type of lighting equipment on the front of the bicycle.

The bicyclist, a 19-year-old male from Orange, was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital in Beaumont with serious injuries.  Medical personnel at the hospital advised that the he was in surgery.  The police officer was not injured in the crash.

This is an ongoing investigation and all information is preliminary.
