Bears roll past Bobcats

LITTLE CYPRESS — Making Coach Darin Harley’s final home game as the head coach a memorable one, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears blew past the Orangefield Bobcats 57-29 at the Bear Cave in District 24-4A action Tuesday night.

The Bears will now face Orange County rival West Orange-Stark later this week to decide the fourth-place playoff berth out of 24-4A after WO-S was dropped by first-place Silsbee 95-49 Tuesday. Both LC-M and WO-S went 5-7 in 24-4A play and split their two games in district.

The Bears jumped out on the Bobcats (2-10 in district) 12-4 in the first quarter and never looked back on Senior Night for guard Cameron Parker and forward Andrew Daspit.

Sophomore post Katon Brown paced the Bear offense with a double-double as he tallied 15 points to go along with 13 rebounds.

Guard Ayson Simmons fired in 12 points for the Bears. Parker contributed nine points and six rebounds while Daspit had nine points and five boards. Keegan Sonnier added eight points.

Guard Wesley Frillou was definitely a bright spot for the Bobcats as he scored more than half their points. Frillou fired in five three-point bombs, four of them coming in the first half, to finish with 15 points. Aven Lathrop chimed in with four points for the Bobcats while Cale Puckett and Mason Gonzales added four rebounds apiece.

LC-M finished with a commanding35-20 rebounding edge.

Orangefield had 15 turnovers while the Bears had13.

LC-M went 11-of-19 from the free-throw line while the Bobcats were 5-of-8.
