On Thursday, January 7, 2016 at approximately 6:04 p.m. officers from the Lake Charles Police Department were dispatched to the 3000 block of 1st Avenue in reference to a hit and run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.  Upon arrival, officers located a 67-year old white male, later identified as Keith Broussard, lying in the roadway with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.  Broussard was transported by ambulance to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  Corporal Scott Dougherty with the Lake Charles Police Department’s Traffic Division is the lead investigator.

A witness was nearby and saw the crash but at the time did not realize that Broussard had been struck. The witness told officers that she saw a vehicle headed Northbound on 1st Avenue strike an object in the roadway and then continue north without stopping.  She said that it made a loud noise leading her to believe that there would be visible damage to the front of the vehicle.  When she came home a little later, she saw the units and found out that what she saw was her neighbor being struck. She described the vehicle as being a newer model silver 4-door truck.
