Newton County Justice of the Peace Connie Smith Friday identified the body of a man recovered from the Sabine River Thursday.

Smith says 47-year-old Kevin Mazzagate of Orange is believed to have drowned. 

Orange County ESD #3 Fire Chief Matt Manshack says that around 3 p.m. Thursday Mazzagate was reported missing and possibly drowned in the Sabine River.  

He said a man and woman were swimming just south of Deweyville near the Orange and Newton County line.

Texas Parks and Wildlife, Newton County Sheriff’s Office and ESD #3 were involved in the search.
