BRIDGE CITY — Mike King, superintendent of the Bridge City Independent School District, announced he will step down from the post in January.

“It’s with a mixture of sadness and excitement to announce that I will be starting a new phase of my career in February 2016 working in the private sector with school districts and companies across the state. I will continue as Superintendent with Bridge City ISD through January 2016,” King’s statement said.

“ First and foremost, I am very proud of all that has been accomplished by our students, teachers and district in the last 4 years. I want to thank the students and staff for all the hard work that has gone into working towards these accomplishments.  I know that many more great things will continue for years to come in BCISD.

“I want to thank the BCISD Board of Trustees first for giving me the opportunity to come to this special place and lead this special district and secondly for their  continued support of our goals for the district. BCISD is blessed with an outstanding board that always puts the students first. Their continued leadership as a board is a great benefit to Bridge City and BCISD.

“I am excited about this opportunity specifically as it allows me and my family to remain in Bridge City and we look forward to remaining a part of this great community,” King’s statement concluded.
