Lady Pirates storm to Woodville tourney title

The Deweyville Lady Pirates captured first place in the gold bracket at the Woodville Eagle volleyball tournament on Saturday August 15th defeating Jasper (21-25, 25-18, 25-18), Splendora (25-16, 25-15) and Beaumont Westbrook (25-17, 25-23). Kennidee Willis claimed the tournament MVP. The wins move Deweyville’s overall record to 7-1 on the season. They will be playing at Hull-Daisetta Tuesday at 6:30.
Against Jasper, Shaylin Dupuy had 31 assists, six digs and two aces. Kennidee Willis had 22 kills, four aces and 14 digs. Bre Sims had 18 digs. Gabby Dupuy notched 21 digs and four aces while Brooke Smith collected five kills and a block.
Against Splendora, Shaylin Dupuy had 15 assists, three digs and two kills. Willis notched eight kills, three aces and five digs.
Against West Brook, Willis claimed 18 kills, 13 digs and two blocks. Shaylin Dupuy had 25 assists and two digs. Gabby Dupuy had 16 digs.
The Lady Pirates defeated the Orangefield Lady Bobcats 23-25, 25-19, 25-10, 25-15 in non-district action Friday.
Willis put together an amazing 30 kills, 24 digs and 11 aces while Shaylin Dupuy claimed 40 assists. Gabby Dupuy had 17 digs while Bre Sims contributed 10 digs and two aces.
For Orangefield, Rebekah Newell and Kailyn Nelson had six kills apiece. Shelby Perales had six blocks and Julianne McManus had two aces.
Orangefield visited Port Neches-Groves Tuesday and will host Anahuac Friday.
Little Cypress-Mauriceville and Bridge City will be competing in the Dickinson Tournament this week while West Orange-Stark will be at the Buna Tournament. LC-M will visit Port Arthur Memorial Friday while Bridge City visits Beaumont Central.
LC-M competed in the Hufman Tournament last week. The Lady Bears downed Humble in two games then dropped a tough 29-27, 25-23 decision to former rival PN-G. The Lady Bears defeated Beaumont Ozen 3-1 last Friday.
