BRIDGE CITY — In its ongoing effort to honor and celebrate its rich tradition of success, the Bridge City Athletic Department is proud to announce the formal organization of the BRIDGE CITY ISD ATHLETICS HALL OF HONOR.

BCISD Athletic Director Richard Briggs shared that “The Bridge City Athletic Department is pleased to announce the formation of this Hall of Honor. Though we have honored former student-athletes in a variety of ways over the years, we have not had a formal display and process by which to ensure these individuals are given the recognition they have earned to celebrate those accomplishments for our community. We will continue to honor former state champions much as we did last year with our 2004 Cross Country team, but the Hall of Honor will focus on those that went on to achieve continued success at the collegiate and / or professional level. This will serve not only to recognize former student-athletes but also to inspire current and future generations of Cardinal athletes.”

Specifically, as adopted by the district, the purpose of the BCISD Athletics Hall of Honor is “To honor and recognize former BCHS student-athletes who went on to achieve an elite level of success at the collegiate and / or professional level while maintaining the expectations and standards of Bridge City ISD Athletics, Bridge City ISD, and the community of Bridge City, Texas.” Based on specific eligibility requirements and selection criteria, former students are nominated and will be considered by a Hall of Honor Selection Committee made up of school and community members. According to Briggs, “we will spend the next several months receiving nominations and then have the committee meet to determine members of the ‘inaugural’ class and discuss other specifics related to the hall.”

Tentative location for the display will be in the foyer area of the high school competition gym which is also the tentative home for a display honoring past BCHS team and individual state champions.
