Robert S. Thomas of Arlington, TX passed away August 6th, 2015.
Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, in Greenwood Chapel, Fort Worth. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park, Fort Worth.
Robert, or Bob as he was known to his friends, was born in Vinton, LA on Jan 4, 1932, the younger son of Thomas W. and Mozelle Thomas. He graduated from Lutcher Stark High School in Orange in 1949 and entered Texas A&M, where he was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets and the Texas Aggie Band.
In 1952, he married Jettie Schmidt of Port Arthur, Texas. They were married until her death in 2009.
Upon his graduation from A&M in 1953, he embarked on his career in the US Army as a Second Lieutenant, where he served proudly in Virginia, Washington State, and in Alaska, resupplying Army bases above the Arctic Circle. Upon completion of his military obligation, he joined the Texas A&M Extension Agency as a County Agent, serving in Titus, Henderson, and Raines Counties. In 1964 he joined Olin Mathieson Corporation where he enjoyed a 25 year career in the Agricultural Chemicals field, travelling across most of Texas and adjoining states.
After his retirement in Arlington, he remained an active hunter and competitive trap shooter, and was an active volunteer in the Fort Worth Gun Club and the Fort Worth Farm and Ranch Club, particularly in their annual Pizza Ranch activity for local youth.
Mr. Thomas is survived by a son, Stan Thomas; a daughter, Patricia Thomas; and two granddaughters, Megan Dinnel and Rachel Thomas.
