New favorites with slow cooker

ORANGE — Favorite Slow Cooker Recipes, the latest release from best-selling culinary expert Bob Warden. This newest cookbook follows Warden's previous collection, Great Food Fast.

Warden’s Favorite Slow Cooker Recipes presents a variety of over 120 recipes, ultimately dispelling the myth that slow cookers are only sufficient for concocting a handful of dishes. While this tempting new cookbook does contain the usual favorites, Warden presents a wealth of new and innovative recipes that bring the trusty old slow cooker into the 21st century.

This new cookbook is an ideal resource for any home cook. All of these recipes can be prepared with a four-quart (or larger) slow cooker, which can already be found in most home kitchens. Better yet, Warden has made a considerable effort to develop these recipes without the use of canned or packaged ingredients, making the task of preparing a healthy and delicious meal with fresh ingredients easier than ever before.

The recipes are easy to follow and are created with ingredients found in most kitchens without the need of searching for exotic spices or seasoning in the area grocery stores. Warden includes an easy to access list of all the seasonings and spices used in the recipes, making it easier for someone just starting out on their own to know which they actually should purchase (and will use) on a regular basis.

Amazingly, the recipes are not just main course or soup/stew variety but also include appetizers and desserts... yes desserts from a slow cooker.

Special diets are addressed in the Introduction section of the cookbook. The suggestions offer easy solutions for converting the recipes to become reduced-sodium, lower calorie or gluten free recipes. It is suggested  to use one’s own knowledge in one’s dietary restrictions in making substitutes.

Preparation times for many of the recipes are twenty minutes while cook times are eight hours, the time one is usually at work, making a home cooked meal in the middle of a busy week an attainable goal.

Favorite Slow Cooker Recipes, 205 pages, published by Quail Ridge Press in March 2013 and available at http://www.quailridge.com.

This cookbook is a must for busy moms and new cooks. The helpful hints with the recipes offers ways to turn the recipes into one’s own creation, sure to inspire many more tasty dishes the family will love.
