BRIDGE CITY —
The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting welcoming Peggy's on the Bayou #2 at their September Monthly Networking Coffee hosted by Peggy's on the Bayou. Peggy's has been a long time member of the chamber, participating in many events including the “Taste of the Bayou” where attendees get a chance to taste the great local foods of the area. The chamber is proud of the dedication and resilience shown by this hardworking couple.
It's been five years since Hurricane Ike hit Bridge City and Peggy's on the Bayou has opened a second location at Norton RV Park, 18017 Highway 62 South in Orange, Texas. Peggy and Richard Albair came back to an overwhelmingly empty building sitting right on the bayou at 2682 Roundbunch Road. Customers and Coast Guard members steadily inquired when they would be back in business until finally they re-opened in a portable building on wheels, like a chuck wagon of days past, on Feb. 12, 2009. Renaming the business “Peggy's on the Bayou,” before long, they were once again delivering dinners from their same location on the bayou.
Peggy's on the Bayou originated as Bridge City Seafood -The Crab House in a portable building in 1986 where they mainly sold live and clean crabs to restaurants and other customers. Support from the people of Bridge City and the surrounding community encouraged the business to expand into a seafood market while also providing docks for the public and crabbers. They also offered a place for those who would like to sit on the back porch and fish. In October 2007, they added the “Old Salt Poboy Shop” deli where they offered takeout orders for area plants, businesses and the public.
Peggy's on the Bayou #2 is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The phone number is 882-0300. Hours and menu information can be found at www.peggysonthebayou.com for both locations.
