Child injured during collision, man arrested for 3rd DWI

ORANGE — A traffic accident at approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of MacArthur Drive and Strickland Drive in Orange lead to a child being sent to the hospital and a man to be arrested for driving with intoxicated 3rd offense.

A woman, driving a blue Oldsmobile was stopped at a red light at the 2900 block of MacArthur Drive when the vehicle was struck by a red Ford F-150, pushing the Oldsmobile into the intersection.

The woman requested the small child passenger of her vehicle to be examined by paramedics at the scene.

The child was transported to Baptist Hospital Orange by Acadian Ambulance Service.

An officer from the City of Orange Police Department observed the driver of the Ford F-150 to have slurred and slow speech according to police reports.

The man told the officer that he taken cough syrup with codeine and had taken Hydrocodone.

The officer performed Standardized Field Sobriety Test, the Walk and Turn Test and the One LegStand.

The results lead the man to be arrested for driving while intoxicated.

The tests were conducted again at the Orange County Intoxilyzer Room.

A complete criminal history check showed the man had been convicted of Boating while intoxicated in October 2000 and driving while intoxicated in April 2003. The check also showed the man was involved in an motor vehicle accident in which a child passenger in the another vehicle was transported to the hospital.

The man was booked for driving while intoxicated 3rd offense.
