Reading Contest Winners at Little Cypress Mauriceville High School

LITTLE CYPRESS — In the most recent local level contest for the Miriam Lutcher Stark Contest in Reading and Declamation, Zoe Casteel and her sister, Ivy Casteel took first place in declamation and interpretive reading, respectively. On Tuesday, February 21, 2012, students took part in the local level contest at the Little Cypress Mauriceville High School campus. The ten students which took part in this contest were led by Stark Reading Contest director Aimee Weldon.

Zoe Casteel won first place in declamation with Television and the Public Interest by Netwon Minow and Ivy Casteel won first place in her interpretive reading of E. M. Forster's A Room With a View. Second place went to Jessica Hyder in declamation and Zaina O'Neal in interpretive reading and each receive $1,500 in scholarships. The two first place winners receive $2,000 in scholarships and will go on to compete in the County Final contest at the Lutcher Theater on April 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. The Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation congratulates the students of Little Cypress Mauriceville High School that participated in the Miriam Lutcher Stark Contest in Reading and Declamation.

The aim of the Stark Reading Contest is to enhance the literary and forensic quality and skills of the students. The Contest has continued annually since its inception in 1904 and offers educational opportunities and experiences for students at Orange County public schools. The Miriam Lutcher Stark Contest in Reading and Declamation is sponsored by the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation as part of its continuing mission to enrich the community and encourage education.
