ORANGE — Michael L. Matthews, 51, passed away May 8, 2013 in Canada after a sudden illness.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Pinehurst Pentecostal Church in Orange, Tx. The Rev. W.W. Smith will officiate.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 1 p.m. until service time.
Mike was born Sept. 19, 1961 in York, Penn. to David L. and Euna Mae Matthews, but lived most of his life in Orange where he graduated high school in 1980 from West Orange-Stark. His passions were music, church and family. He also had a fondness for the Dallas Cowboys. He resided for the last 13 years in Canada.
He was preceded iin death by his mother.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Matthews of Canada; his daugther, Elizabeth Williamson and husband Casey; son Danial Abrego; stepchildren Kim, Travis and Tyler Kushnirak. Grandchildren, Cameron, Christian, and Caitlyn Williams, Vaydon, Marques, Jordaan, Joel, Devan and Astashia Abrego; his father, David L. Matthews; his brother, David V. Matthews and his sister, Brenda Foreman.
Though Mike lived thousands of miles away, his heart was never far from those he loved. His faith in God was a testimony he shared with all he knew. Michael believed in the power of prayer and having been healed of a brain tumor many years ago and the power of having the name of the Father.
As MICHAEL means (who is as God as a special guardian). MATTHEWS means (a gift of god). He was both - insert by Paw.
