Willie Leven Cleveland, Jr. was born October 13, 1941. He was the first born of Willie “Bill” Cleveland, Sr., and Rilma Williams Cleveland.
“Billie”, as he was also known, was a 1959 graduate of Emma Wallace High School. After graduation, he attended Bishop College and later transferred to Prairie View A&M University. Billie earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education in 1963. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from August of 1967 to June of 1968.
While attending Prairie View, he met his wife, Lee Francis Randolph. They were married on August 31, 1968. This union was blessed with four children; Brian Keith, Nicolette Tara, Desmond Kendall, and Demetria Lynn.
Billie was an educator for over 40 years. “Coach Cleveland” touched many lives. The majority of his career was at Abraham Lincoln High School in Port Arthur, Texas.
Billie was a lifelong member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church. He worked actively in The Sunday School, Adult Choir, and Brotherhood. He helped where he was needed.
Brother Willie Cleveland was called home on January 29, 2014. Those who await him in paradise are his parents; his wife of 42 years, Lee Francis, and one grandson (Kaleb Berry). Left to cherish his life, love, and memory, are his four children; Brian (Karen) , Tara (Mavis), Kendall (Nakeisha), and Demetria. Grandchildren; Anthony, Korie, Kamerin, Keyshawn, Kendall, Kaiden, Nyja. Three brothers; Donald (Liz), Carrol (Gail), Mervin (Hessie), and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 11:00 AM. Reverend Van Barnett will officiate. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 AM at the church. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery under the direction of The Geter Funeral Home.
