ORANGE — OCP’s ‘Mama Won’t Fly’

The Orange Community Players present the Southeast Texas premiere of “Mama Won’t Fly,” at 7:37 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23. A matinee is scheduled at 2:37 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 24. Tickets are $5 for students and $12 for adults and may be purchased at the box office an hour prior to each performance, or online at www.orangecommunityplayers.com. Cowboy Church Concert

Cowboy Church on the Rock, 13803 Highway 90 at Meeker Road, will host Christian Country duo “Branded” during Sunday morning services on Feb. 24. The Branded Duo blends together the talents of award winning singers/songwriters, Paul Staggs and Robert Wm. Welch. These two have teamed up to be Christian Country’s premier duo. With numerous awards to their credit, they have 10 top ten songs with CCRB, Awarded Vocal Duo of the Year with Inspirational Country Music for 2005, 2006 and 2007 and awarded Duo of the Year with CGC 2005. School Board

The Vidor Independent School District’s Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 25, at the Annex Building, 200 S. Archie, for its regularly scheduled meeting. The public is invited to attend.



Team Captain meeting

The Orange County Relay for Life will hold a month Team Captain meetings on Monday, Feb. 25. The Team Captain meetings will be held at the Lamar State College – Orange Wilson Building, Room 101. The Feb. 25 meeting will begin at 5:45 p.m. Additional team captain meetings are scheduled for: March 25 and April 22. All Team Captain meetings are directed at planning for the Orange County Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, which will be held May 3 – 4, 2013 at Bridge City High School from 6:30 p.m. until 6:30 a.m. This year’s theme is “A Little Bit of Texas, A Whole Lot of Hope.” Individuals or teams interested in becoming involved with this event are invited to attend the meeting and register on-line at www.OrangeCountyRelay.org



Black History Month program

OC Republican Party

The Orange County Republican Party will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26 in the Orange County Commissioners’ Courtroom of the Orange County Courthouse Annex. The public is invited.

Vidor Runners and Walkers meet at 5:30 p.m., every Tuesday, at Claiborne West Park. Runners and walkers of every age and level are invited.



Scrapbooking

Manage Diabetes

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and Prairie View A&M University Cooperative Extension are partnering together to offer wisdom, power, control Orange County. A family-centered program taught by medical professionals that will be held once a week for seven weeks. All materials will be provided. The program is for anyone who wants to be healthy with diabetes? The classes are free and will provide free A1c Test for those who qualify. Classes will be held at North Early Learning Center, 801 Cordrey in Orange and will start Tuesday, March 19 and goes through Tuesday, April 30 from 9 am - 11 am. A Reunion Class will be held Tuesday, June 4. To enroll call the Extension office at 409-882-7010.



Community Ed. Classes

Vidor ISD offers the following classes this semester through their adult Community Education program: Baby Steps Computer, Beginning Computer, Basic Windows, Pinterest, Basic Digital Photography, Gemology, iPhone, Android phones, Windows Phones, Toning and Conditiong, Creating a Bouquet with Cookies, Dog Obedience, Piano in Three Hours, and a Galveston Field Trip. Green Thumb Series

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension of Orange County is holding the 2nd group of classes in the Green Thumb Series called Plant Propagation and Botany. The topics of this series are: Plant Categories and Plant Processes; Plant Parts and Functions; Flowers, Fruits, Seeds, and Germination; Environmental Factors; and Plant Nutrition and Hormones. These classes are being held at the Mauriceville Community Center (Crawfish Festival Grounds) from 6 pm to 8 pm. Classes are as scheduled: February 26, March 5, March 19, and March 26. Red Hot Flashers

The Red Hot Flashers of the Red Hat Society will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 27 in the Wal-Mart parking lot on Edgar Brown Drive in West Orange and will car-pool to Starvin Marvin’s in Beaumont. AAUW Book Drive

The Orange Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is beginning its annual book drive to collect “gently used” books for their scholarship fund. All books, fiction, non-fiction, hardbound or paper back are acceptable. Books may be delivered to the Mann Insurance Agency at 1505 Park Ave. at 15th Street during regular business hours. Catfish Dinners

St. Therese Catholic Church, 1409 N. Sixth St. in Orange, will have catfish dinners available from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., every Friday during Lent. AARP Tax Filing Assistance Program will be offered from 12:15 p.m. - 4 p.m., every Wedneaday and Friday at the Orange Public Library. Bring the following, all W-2 and 1099 forms, records of capital gains and losses, copy of 2011 tax return, receipts of medical expenses, major purchases and social security cards for dependents.

Each grade level will display items from spring and Texas themes. Title I teachers will host a parent meeting that will feature fun learning games parents can do with their child to promote reading and math.

Heroines of Jericho

The Heroines of Jericho will hold its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m., Friday, March 8 at Gate City Masonic Lodge No. 31, 1017 Mill at John St. in Orange. All Heroines and Knights are asked to be present.



GED Test Dates

Vidor ISD announces that GED tests are changing beginning in January 2014. Those who are currently working on the test process must complete it in 2013 or start the process over from the beginning. The 2013 test dates for GED at the AIM Center High School are March 20 and March 21. Dates are subject to change, and more dates will be held each following month, so check with the testing centers at 951-8780. Examinees are expected to arrive on time. Testing begins promptly at 4:30 p.m. Doors will be locked at that time. Tutoring for the GED is also available in Vidor ISD. Call AIM Center High School for further information.



Easter Egg Hunt

Cove Baptist Church of Orange, 1005 DuPont Drive, and its Preschool/Children’s Ministry team will hold its annual Easter egg hunt from 10 a.m. - noon, Friday, March 29 for children ages toddler through sixth grade. Community Shoe Drive

KLBT 88.1 Community Shoe Drive benefiting Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls will kick off April 1st and the final Shoe Marathon Day will be May 10th at KLBT Radio’s headquarters. Join the community collect new shoes and socks for orphans and vulnerable children in Southeast Texas and all around the world!The drive is in need of drop off locations in Beaumont, Mid-County, Orange, Bridge City, Lumberton, Vidor, and Winnie.
