ORANGE — Cormier Museum

The Orangefield Cormier Museum, located near Orangefield High School on FM 105 in Orangefield, will be open to the public from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19.



Genealogical society

Garage and Bake sale

The American Legion will have a garage and bake sale from 7 a.m. - 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19. We appreciate any donations for the garage sale. We need hangers if anyone has any. Pastor Appreciation Service

The officers and members of Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Orange cordially invite the community to celebrate their pastor’s 44th year of dedicated service with an appreciation service will be held in honor of Rev. and Mrs Calvin Coolidge Jones at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 20. Chamber banquet

Best of Best Gospel Fest

MLK March

The annual Martin Luther King Jr. March will be held starting at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 21. Lineup will be at at Turrett and 2nd Street. Procession will travel to the Orange County Courthouse for a short program, and then back to Mount Olive Baptist Church for a long program at approximately 1:30 p.m., Monday. The public is encouraged to participate and attend.

The Vidor Rotary Club meets at noon, every Monday, upstairs in the Capital One building on North Main Street.

Community Trash Off

The 18th Annual Community Trash Off will be held from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9. Participants will meet at Orange Lions Den Park. Teams consist of 3-5 participants and are limited to adults and children age 12 and older. All teams must be supervised by an adult. AAUW Book Drive

The Orange Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is beginning its annual book drive to collect “gently used” books for their scholarship fund. All books, fiction, non-fiction, hardbound or paper back are acceptable. Books may be delivered to the Mann Insurance Agency at 1505 Park Ave. at 15th Street during regular business hours. Scrapbooking

GED Test Dates

Vidor ISD announces that GED tests are changing beginning in January 2014. Those who are currently working on the test process must complete it in 2013 or start the process over from the beginning. The 2013 test dates for GED at the AIM Center High School are Jan. 23 and Jan. 24, Feb. 20 and Feb. 21, and March 20 and March 21. Dates are subject to change, and more dates will be held each following month, so check with the testing centers at 951-8780. Examinees are expected to arrive on time. Testing begins promptly at 4:30 p.m. Doors will be locked at that time. Tutoring for the GED is also available in Vidor ISD. Call AIM Center High School for further information.



Genealogy group

The Genies, an Orange County Genealogy group, will have its monthly meeting at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Vidor Public Library, 440 E. Bolivar. Speakers are Katie Moak and Louise Jetton, authors of “Dueling Sisters.” A book signing will be held following meeting. The public is invited.



Finanical aid planning meeting

Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School will hold a college financial aid planning meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24 in the library lecture room. Parents of seniors are invited to attend in order to receive valuable information about grant and loan opportunities, as well as the financial aid application process. Mardi Gras Parade

The Krewe of Krewe’s Mardi Gras Parade will be held in downtown Orange on Saturday, Feb. 2. If you would like to participate and have a float in the parade, please call the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce at 409-883-3536. Entry fee is $100. Application deadline is Jan. 23. Mandatory drivers meeting at 5:30 p.m., Jan. 29.



Student Tax Talks

Lamar State College-Orange, in partnership with H&R Block, will offer FREE information program regarding income tax related issues with emphasis on Student Education Benefits from 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, inside Room 125 of the Wilson Building, 506 Green Ave. in Orange. Topics include child credit for students who are parents, new tax laws, healthcare reform, education related tax savings, working teenagers as dependents and more. Seating is limited. Green Thumb Series

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension of Orange County is offering Green Thumb  Series training being held at St. Mary Catholic School. Classes are from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., Jan. 29, Feb. 5, Feb. 12 and Feb. 19. Mardi Gras Ball

The Arc of Greater Beaumont will hold a Mardi Gras Ball with an evening of fun New Orleans style from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25 for individuals age 18 years old and older that have intellectual and developmental delays. Southern Gospel concert

Orange First Church of the Nazarene invites you to come hear Southern Gospel singer and musician Brad White at 6 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25. The Heroines of Jericho will hold a Giant Indoor Garage Sale and Bake Sale on Saturday, Jan. 26, inside the Gate City Masonic Lodge No. 31, 1017 Mill at John St. in Orange. The event will be held rain or shine, and the early bird gets the worms!

The Orange County Republican Party will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 29, instead of Jan. 22, at the Raymond Gould Community Center, 385 Claiborne St. in Vidor. We will be discussing the 2012 election, where we go from there and issues we now face locally as well as nationally.



Bunco is Back

Join us at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30, for Game Night at St. Mary Church Parish Hall, 909 Cherry St. in Orange. Snacks and prizes will be provided by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, but we want you to provide the fun. Bunco veterans are more than willing to share the fun with newcomers. Senior Citizen Computer Classes

Lamar State College-Orange is offering free computer classes for senior citizens, ages 55 and older, from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the Wilson Building, Room 133, 506 Green Ave. in Orange. Course is designed for individuals who have never used a computer. Learn to turn on computer, navigate with a mouse, open programs, play games, surf the Internet, set up an e-mail account and send e-mail with attachments. Glenn Pearson Basketball

Tip off for the Sixth Annual Glenn Pearson Basketball Alumni Tourney is 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2, and all interested players should e-mail tony.knight@bridgecityisd.net ASAP to reserve a spot. Participation requirement is that the alumnus played Varsity basketball for and graduated from Bridge City High School. Participants should include in the e-mail their year of graduation, their coach name, and jersey size. Mr. Pearson plans to attend the event.



Trout release

The Orange County Parks Department announces the trout release at Claiborne West Park on Thursday Feb. 7. Approximately 500 trout will be released each day. Park hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. A fishing license and stamp are required. For more information call 409-745-2255.



Chuck Young Baseball Classic

The Chuck Young Baseball Alumni Classic will be held Saturday, Feb. 9. The event will begin with a Homerun Derby at 10 a.m. and there is a $20 entry fee. Fundraiser

The American Legion Post 49, 108 Green Avenue, Orange, will hold a plate lunch fundraiser from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14. The Cost is $8. The meal will consist of brisket, link, potato salad, beans, bread and dessert. Walk-ins are welcome and delivery is available. Mystery Dinner Theater

The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce is holding its 3rd annual Mystery Dinner Threatre “Reading Aunt Louise’s Will", Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16. Cost for the Feb. 15 show for all ages is $20 per person and $150 per table of 8, which includes dinner and drinks (no alcohol). Tickets for the Feb. 16 show, for ages 21 and older only, are $40 per person, $300 per table of 8, and $50 to decorate table, dinner, drinks and wine will be served.
