The Orange Leader
What is happening with our children?
Bulling, stabbings and shouting in our schools. Why? I want to challenge parents to look at ourselves.
We are not preparing Gardens of Eden for our children we have gardens of infection. When God placed man in the Garden, everything that he needed was in the garden. What secrets are in our garden? Far too many principles and values are missing in our homes.
I’m not speaking of two parents in the home; I’m speaking of parenting in the home, structure, order, and developmental lines of communication. Where are the foundational principles needed to build strong, secure successful young men and women? Our gardens have little to no structure; the order and structure being set in the home are being set by children. Instead of lines of communication our children see lines of confusion, clutter and chaos.
Hurt people hurt people but healthy people help people. Are we healthy? Skeletons in our closet are not our only concern; we have to address the demons in our basement. The ones we’ve been told to suppress. The one’s our parents didn’t want to or knew how to deal with. We’ve just packed them up and moved them to the basement of our emotions.
We can’t talk to our children when they come to us about concerns because it forces us to remember what’s in the basement. It’s time to go into the basement, in the garage, in the attic and clean out all of the baggage/trash that we have packed (suppressed) up.
We can no longer afford to overlook family secrets.
We have to deal with the molestation, the drug and alcohol addictions, and the promiscuity that is being passed down from generation to generation.
Faith without works is dead.
We have to put action to our prayers. We have to deal with happen to us. We have to stop taking our screams for help out on our children.
Our children are a product of our inability to deal with our hurts. Take a close look at your children, do you see any similarities? If we really care about our children’s future we need to confront our past.
Healing from our hurts will strengthen our ability to help our children. Don’t allow for your hurts to hinder the success of your child.
