Man arrested in Nederland after two-county chase

VIDOR — A high-speed chase Tuesday that began in Orange County ended in Nederland with the arrest of 22-year-old Cesar Olmedo of Nederland.

At around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency call from the Vidor Superette, 5645 N. Main in Vidor, about a stolen vehicle. The caller reported that while the owner of the vehicle was inside the convenience store, a man got into the truck and drove away.

Sheriff’s deputies located the stolen vehicle as it was fleeing the area. The marked Sheriff’s vehicles got behind the stolen truck on North Main in Vidor and attempted to stop the driver. The man refused to stop and led deputies to IH-10 westbound toward Beaumont.

The suspect continued fleeing at speeds around 100 mph. He continued on IH-10 westbound and exited at U.S. 69. He then drove at a high rate of speed until he exited onto Twin City Highway. As he approached the intersection with Spurlock Road, the suspect crashed into a passenger vehicle and then side-swiped the trailer of an 18-wheeler.

The suspect then fled on foot where officers were able to apprehend him on Hill Street, just off Twin City Highway. 

The stolen vehicle was a 1996 Chevrolet truck.The driver of the passenger car that was involved in the collision was transported by ambulance to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas for non-life threatening injuries. The 18-wheeler driver was not hurt.

The suspect was not injured, but was transported to the Baptist Hospital in Orange for a medical evaluation. After being evaluated, he was transported to the Orange County Jail where he was booked for unauthorized use of a vehicle and evading arrest with a vehicle, both offenses a State Jail Felony.

 Olmedo remains in custody in the Orange County Jail. He has not yet been arraigned and no bond was set late Tuesday. The Beaumont Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety assisted in the incident.
