Santa Claus is coming to town, and so are dozens of classic automobiles.
The Vidor Chamber of Commerce will hold the Classic Christmas Cruise, an annual tradition in this Orange County community, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, in the parking lot of Capital One, 1255 N. Main in Vidor. The event is free and open to the public.
The family oriented event will feature dozens of classic automobiles on display, live music, a street dance, and vendors offering plenty of a variety of items just in time for the holidays.
“This event is something that the whole community really looks forward to every year,” said Dickie Woodard, president of the Vidor Chamber of Commerce. “We use the event to collect toys and monetary donations to help families at Christmas time through programs like Blue Santa and Toys for Tots. Last year we had an extremely large amount of donations of both money and toys, so we are looking forward to this year. We have a pretty generous community.”
Santa Claus will be in attendance once again to visit with children and families after the tree lighting as he gathers last minute updates to those all important Christmas lists.
Line-up for the car cruise will begin at 4 p.m., with the cruise beginning at approximately 5 p.m. Vehicles will travel up and down Main Street and return to the Capital One parking lot. This will be followed by the annual Christmas Tree lighting at 6 p.m.
“The tree lighting itself has always been pretty popular,” Woodard added. “Combining it with the cruise only helped create more exposure for both events.”
Na Na Sha will return once again to provide the entertainment for the street dance portion of the cruise. The band, based out of Gonzales, La., performs a variety of class material from the Golden Era of rock and roll, including songs “Run Around Sue,” “Mustang Sally,” “Shout,” “Twist and Shout,” “Tears on My Pillow” and many more.
Entries are still being accepted into the car show and all participants are asked to make a donation of either canned food goods or dry food goods which will be donated to a local charity. All people attending this year’s event are encouraged to make donations as well to help out those in need this holiday season.
“The Classic Christmas Cruise is one of the most successful events in Vidor every year,” Woodard stated. “Not only do a lot of people from across the area come to see the cars, but the support is amazing. A lot of people and children in the schools are involved, including the school choirs, and that helps get the community more involved. And the more people involved the better we can help children at Christmas.”
