The Orange Leader
WEST ORANGE —
West Orange -Stark Alumni Foundation resubmitted alternate routes for the 5K run that was denied during the April city council meeting.
President of the West Orange -Stark Alumni Foundation Paul Thomas III submitted three routes which would not effect the major roads in the city such as Foreman Road, Austin Avenue or Western Avenue.
The city council approved a route during the Tuesday night meeting.
“I have reached out to the five branches of the military and they are willing to help with the road crossings,” Thomas said.
The man power used will still need to be approved by the Chief of Police for residents safety.
Thomas said he was very excited about the approval of a route for the run.
The council also approved suggestions from the Parks Rules and Regulations Committee for creating ordinance no. 220-A.
The proposed park rules are:
• Park Hours: 6 a.m. - 10 p.m.
• No powered inflatable devices (unless City-sponsored events)
• No generators
• No skates, rollerblades, skateboards, bicycles, or motorized vehicles
• No glass bottles
• No alcohol
• No weapons or firearms
• No loud music or excessive noise
• Animals must be on a leash
• All trash must be placed in trash receptacles
• No tobacco products
“We have the park open all this time without any ground rules,” Mayor Roy McDonald said. “Observation says there is a need for rules now.”
The council also approved keeping residential property exemptions for the tax year 2013 the same.
The West Orange City Council will meet again 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 10 at 2700 Western Avenue.
