ORANGE COUNTY —
People riding Jet Skis on the Neches River discovered a body in the water late Sunday.
A body was discovered near a steel company close to the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge, also known as the Neches River Bridge, at approximately 6 p.m., Sunday, on the Neches River which separates Jefferson County and Orange County. The body was found on the Orange County side of the river.
Law enforcement personnel with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Port Authority Police secured the scene after receiving the call from the jet skiers.
Judge Derry Dunn, Orange County Justice of the Peace in Precinct 2, has ordered an inquest in hopes of identifying the individual.
Dunn stated the body has been in the water for an extended period, which made identifying the body difficult.
The body is believed to be that of a man, but Dunn said it impossible to determine much more than that, even the individual’s ethnicity.
The unidentified individual was wearing a white plastic bracelet around his wrist with black lettering with the words, “I’m sexy and I know it.”
The cause of death is undetermined and an autopsy will be conducted.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on the possible identity of this person to call 409-883-2612.
