Police have arrested a man they believe to be involved in two separate armed robberies, one of which involved a woman from Orange.
The Beaumont Police Department arrested 47-year-old Ronald Lee Young Sr. after locating him in shortly before noon, Friday, in the 3000 block of French Road in Beaumont.
Detectives were able to identify Young as a suspect and secured warrants for his arrests following two armed robberies earlier this month.
The first robbery occurred in the parking lot of Target Shopping Center on Eastex Freeway in Beaumont on Nov. 11. The robber confronted a woman, later identified as a resident of Orange, and attempted to take her purse from her. After a brief struggle, the culprit produced a gun and fired a shot into the ground.
The second robbery occurred on Nov. 28 in the 14th Street parking garage of Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
The robber once again confronted a female and attempted to take her purse. As before, following a brief struggle, he once again produced a weapon and fired a shot into the ground.
“The swift apprehension of this violent felon was the direct result of hard work on the part of our detectives,” a statement read in a press release. “Because of their work on this case and all the others they investigate, our clearance rate on robberies is almost twice that of the national average.”
