ORANGE — There is never anything wrong with putting more focus on something in an effort to save human lives.

Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety started inspections of commerical motor vehicles on Tuesday in an effort to take dangerous vehicles off the highways. Troopers will do these inspections through Thursday along Interstate 10 in Orange and Jefferson Counties.

Targeted areas have been selected and the 72 hour operation is geared to send a message to unsafe drivers and companies who break the law.

Troopers and other commericial vehicle enforcement personnel inspected 331,505 commercial vehicles from January to November in 2011 and the DPS removed 66,189 unsafe vehicles and 12,301 unsafe drivers for a variety of safety violations.

The DPS did acknowledge most commerical vehicle operators do obey the law. The operation is to catch the ones who do not and cause a serious threat to other motorists.
