BEAUMONT — Call Saturday night's performance the Montana Quirante show.

The Central Jaguars (2-5, 2-2) made it an interesting game in the fourth quarter but, at the end of the night, Montana Quirante and the Vidor Pirates (6-1,3-1) ran away with the victory for a 40-21 win.

The Pirates offense totaled 421 yard with 399 coming on the ground. Quirante stole the show picking up 240 yards rushing on 22 carries including a remarkable six rushing touchdowns. Bryce Cooper helped in the effort by contributing a 52-yard carry that eventually lead to points for the Pirates.

The Jaguars found success through the air as Robert Mitchel completed 13 passes for 185 yards. Mitchel did find the end zone on three different runs as he also totaled 47 yards rushing. Garrison Mitchell lead the way receiving with 61 yards but Nicalus Rhone was the go-to-receiver with six receptions for a total of 44 yards.

The Jaguars would receive the kickoff and both teams traded three and outs to start off the game. Austin Rodriguez would give the Pirates their first break of the night with an interception to set up the offense on the 50 yard line.

It would only take three plays for Quirante to find the end-zone. He navigated through the defense for a 39 yard touchdown run to put the Pirates on the board first. Michael Tamayo would tack on the point after as the Pirates lead 7-0 with 5:51 remaining in the first.

After forcing the Jags to punt on the following drive the Pirates would set up shop on their own 35 yard line. This time it would take four plays to find pay dirt. Bryce Cooper carried the ball 52 yards before he was stopped at the six yard line. After a few penalties the Pirates found themselves in a first and goal situation from the 20 yard line. The Jags would not be able to stop Quirante from finding the endzone for the second time. After a botched snap on the PAT the scoreboard would read 13-0 with 2:28 left in the first.

After the Pirates defense forced another three and out, the offense would take over at their own 41 yard line. This time they would chip away at the field position for eight plays before Quirante busted a 21 yard run for his third touchdown. The Pirates would go for two but fail to cross the goal line leaving the score at 19-0 with 7:44 until half time.

On the following drive the Jags would finally find success using five plays to span 66 yards to find the endzone. Landon Marlbrough would make a great catch only to be stopped on the three yard line. The next play Mitchel would carry it in to get the Jags on the board. Xavier Morris would add the point after as the score was 19-7 with 6:49 until the half.

The Pirates would bring the kickoff past the 50 to start the drive on the 48 yard line. They would again chip away at the field position using 11 plays and a 4th down conversion to set up Quirante’s 14 yard run for his fourth touchdown of the half. Tamayo would come though for the extra point with 1:27 remaining in the half.

The Jags would not go into the locker room quietly. With 33 seconds on the clock Garrison Mitchel would fully extend himself on a 39 yard diving catch to put them on the one yard line. The Jags would hurry to the line and Robert Mitchel would keep it on the quarter back sneak for the score. Morris added the extra point as they closed the gap to 26-14 with 20 seconds left before the teams head for the locker rooms.

Both teams were quiet during the 3rd quarter until the Jags Trent Samuels fell on a Pirate fumble to give the ball to their offense the ball 53 yards from the goal line. On a 12-play drive Mitchel would eventually convert a third and 18 situation with a 25-yard touchdown run. After Morris added the point after the Jags were within striking distance trailing 26-21 with 10:21 remaining in the game.

The Pirates would not allow the Jags to hang around any longer. Quirante would add two more touchdown runs of 1 yard and 18 yards to seal the victory and bring his total to six rushing touchdowns on the night.

Next week the Pirates (6-1,3-1) will be at home to celebrate homecoming as the take on the PN-G Indians (2-6, 1-4).
