The Sweeny Lady Bulldogs ended a tremendous Bridge City season Saturday as they downed the Lady Cardinals 11-6 in Game Three of their Class 3A Region III area round series at Baytown Lee High School.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 8-0 lead in the top of the second inning and were able to hold the District 21-3A champion Lady Cardinals at bay to hold on for the win.
The Lady Cardinals scored four runs in the bottom of the second as Bailee Thibodaux had a RBI double and Hannah Faulk and Hannah Carpenter both had RBI groundouts.
Shelby Miller gave Sweeny a 9-4 lead in the fifth with a RBI double and the Lady Cardinals then had a two-run error to make it 11-4.
Bridge City scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Carpenter and Kaleigh Carter had back-to-back singles to left. Kellyn Cormier brought in a run with a single to center and Kasey Frederick brought in the other run with a sacrifice fly.
The Lady Cardinals won Game One Friday night 6-3.
Frederick was 1-for-2 with a double, a RBI and a run scored. Carter was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Faulk was 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored.
Sweeny bounced back to take Game Two 6-3.
Thibodeaux was 2-for-3 with two doubles and scored. Faith Kaufman was 2-for-3. Carpenter was 2-for-3 and scored. Faulk was 1-for-3 with a RBI. Cormier was 1-for-4 with a RBI.
The Lady Bulldogs will now take on the Orangefield Lady Bobcats in the regional quarterfinals Friday in a one-gamer at 7 p.m. at Baytown Lee High School.
