Congratulations go out to West Orange-Stark defensive back Deionte Thompson and linebacker Elijah Teel for making the Class 3A Texas Sportswriters Association Class 3A All-State Team.
Thompson made First Team in the secondary while Teel made Second Team at linebacker.
Both were key components for head coach Cornel Thompson and helped lead the Mustangs to a 11-2 record and yet another District 21-3A title last season.
Thompson, a junior, spearheaded a young Mustang secondary and finished with 66 tackles and four interceptions.
Teel, a senior, who was also the Defensive Most Valuable Player on the All-Orange Leader Team, led the Mustangs with 155 tackles and had 17 tackles for losses.
The two will be honored yet again this coming Wednesday as both are finlists for the Willie Ray Smith Defensive Award at the Smith Banquet, which will be held at the Elegante Hotel in Beaumont.
Carthage quarterback Blake Bogenschutz and Fairfield running back Larry Rose shared 3A Offensive Player of the Year honors.
Bogenschutz passed for 4,003 yards and 57 touchdowns to lead Carthage to the 3A Division I state title.
Rose rushed for 2,979 yards and 51 TDs in leading Fairfield to the 3A Division II title game.
Navasota defensive lineman Jordan Wells was the defensive player of the year. Wells amassed 40 tackles for losses and 31 quarterback pressures.
