Lady Bobcat golfers punch state ticket

WILLIS — WILLIS — The Orangefield Lady Bobcats golf team punched their ticket to the Class 3A State Golf Championships by placing third as a team at the Class 3A Region III Championships held at the Panorama Village Golf Course Tuesday.

Macy Hamilton paced the Lady Bobcats with a 205 (95-110) followed by teammates Ashton Gatreaux 210 (105, 105), Megan Burton 219 (107-112), Rylie Granger 238 (119-119), and Maggie Hebert 256 (120-136).

The Lady Bobcats, coached by Brandon Prouse, will now get prepared for the 3A State Golf Championships, which will be held May 2-3 at Austin’s Jimmy Clay COurse.

At the Class 4A Region III Championships in Huntsville, Little Cypress-Mauriceville’s Lauren Cox wrapped up a excellent season by shooting a 164 (80-84). Nederland’s Felicia Sauceda barely missed a trip to Austin as she shot a 160 (78-82), falling short by just two strokes.

The Nederland girls finished seventh as a team while Port Neches-Groves placed 11th.
