Orange County Airport is one step closer to a new 80x80 Box Hanger.
TxDOT Aviation Commission approved the project on May 30 leaving the county waiting for the Grant Contract to arrive for County Judge Carl Thibodeaux to sign, according to Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Kelley said during the 2 p.m. Monday Commissioners Court meeting.
Airport Supervisor Franklin Walters was unable to attend the meeting due to attending the first Hurricane Season coordination conference call with the State.
The Orange County Jail fire alarm and security cameras were damaged by a lightening strike on May 11.
“All the damages will be covered by insurance, minus the deductible,” Kelley said.
The fire alarm at the Orange County Courthouse also was damaged by lighting in a storm in 2012.
“An insurance claim has been filed on it as well,” Kelley said.
The court also discussed the Trust Property account #000003-028401 which recently had a gas tank removed from the property. Once the report from the Ranger Environmental Services has been accepted by TCEQ, the county will turn the deed over to the individual who placed a bid on it. The person also agreed to pay half the costs of the tank removal.
Director of Transportation Donna Minter reported to the court that two vehicles that were questioned during the previous monthly report have been taken off the insurance as of May.
“The two trucks will still be on our inventory list until TxDOT removes them,” Minter said. “I have already started that process.”
One of the trucks has a blown head gasket.
