ORANGE — A special Labor Day event is on tap for residents of Orange and Orange County.

The City of Orange Convention and Visitors Bureau invites the public to attend its first ever Labor Day concert and fireworks extravaganza, which will be held at the Orange Riverfront Boardwalk and Pavilion along the Sabine River in downtown Orange.

Area variety band Travelling Roads will perform a concert at 7 p.m., Monday. This event will be followed by a fireworks display at 8:30 p.m. over the Sabine River.

“The City of Orange is excited to host the Labor Day concert and fireworks display at the new riverfront boardwalk and pavilion in downtown Orange,” said Jay Trahan, director of Economic Development for the City of Orange. “This event is free to the public with the local band, Traveling Roads, performing under the pavilion. A spectacular fireworks display is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. and is produced by Pyrotecnico, the same fireworks company that was associated with the recent Bassmasters fishing tournament held at the city boat ramp.”

Trahan offered a “special thanks” to Russell Covington and Beacon Maritime as a community partner for the fireworks site at Harbour Island, formerly known as Levingston Island.

Travelling Roads, which is based in Orange, Texas, is a seven-piece band comprised of seasoned musicians. The group performs a variety of material, including rock ’n roll hits spanning more than 40 years from the 1950s through the 1980s, as well as classic and modern country hits, rhythm and blues and several of the latest musical hits.

“This can be considered a quality of life event for our residents, and it is just the first of several to be scheduled at the Orange Riverfront Pavilion between September 2013 and May 2014,” Trahan added.

Guests are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets as well as picnic baskets. However, no pets of any type are allowed.
