BEAUMONT — The holiday season is a great time for family and friends, but it is also a great time for live music. Although shows are during the heart of the season, there have been several worth seeing over the years.

• Dec. 21, 2006 Rock music fans received an early Christmas present as Saliva, Papa Roach, Hed P.E. and Black Stone Cherry performed inside Ford Arena in Beaumont.

• Dec. 27, 1988 Synthpop band Book of Love performed at Rhinestone’s in Beaumont in support of its 1988 release “Lullaby” and hit single “Pretty Boys and Pretty Girls.”

• Dec. 28, 2008 Texas rock outfit The Toadies returned to Southeast Texas for a headlining concert at the Scout Bar in downtown Beaumont in front of a near-capacity crowd.

• Dec. 28, 1983 Rock band Heart, touring in support of its August 1983 release “Passionworks” and featuring the single “How Can I Refuse?” performed at the Beaumont Civic Center. Support was provided by The Romantics, which was touring in support of its highly popular album “In Heat” and hit single “Talking in Your Sleep.”
