BEAUMONT — A great night of music will benefit an even greater cause.

A special Battle of the Bands event is being held tonight at Madison’s, which is located on Dowlen Road in Beaumont. The music starts at 7:30 p.m., Thursday and features local acts The HFA’s, The Circuit Breakers, JAG, My Beautiful Disaster and Flava. Admission is $5 at the door and all proceeds benefit the Julie Rogers Gift of Life program.

The friendly competition will pay big dividends for the winning group. The prize package for the winning band includes $500 cash, an opening slot for Mid-Life Crisis as the annual Champagne and Ribs event in May and an opening spot for a national act to be determined at Nutty Jerry’s Entertainment Complex in Winnie sometime later this year.

The Gift of Life program has a well-earned reputation for helping those in need and facing dire situations. It’s mission, according to its official website, is “to provide Southeast Texans extensive educational outreach that focuses on breast, prostate, testicular, ovarian, and other gynecological cancers; free mammograms and prostate cancer screenings with access to follow-up treatment for medically underserved women and men; and a tobacco prevention program, which targets both adults and children.”
