Man dies from early morning 4-wheeler wreck

Darrel Joseph Bertrand, 28, dies from injuries received from a four-wheeler wreck.

The wreck, according to a press release from the City of Orange Police Department, happened about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 on Farm to Market Road 3247, near West Bluff Road in the Little Cypress Community. That section of FM 3247 is commonly referred to as Elmira Road.   

Bertrand was treated at the scene by personnel from both the Orange and Little Cypress Fire Departments, and Acadian EMS. Acadian EMS transported the victim to Baptist Hospital-Orange, where he died as a result of injuries received in the accident. 

Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace - David Peck conducted an inquest, and ordered that an autopsy

be performed. 

The Orange Police Department is conducting an investigation.

Preliminary investigation of the accident indicates that Bertrand was riding a four-wheeler, and left the roadway into a steep


At this time, it is believed that Bertrand was alone, and there is no indication that the circumstances were anything other than an accident.
