ORANGEFIELD — There’s no place like home, no matter what your age is.

The 65th annual Orangefield Homecoming celebration will be held from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday, June 8, in the cafeteria of Orangefield Elementary, 10288 FM 105 in Orangefield. This yearly event is a celebration for former students of Orangefield High School, its faculty and the community.

According to Mary Nixon of the Orangefield Homecoming Committee, barbecue and drinks will be supplied for Saturday’s event. This also includes plates and utensils. Guests are encouraged to bring their favorite side dish, dessert or other food item to share during the homecoming event.

“This event was started by people who graduated from Orangefield High School years and years ago,” said Nixon. “We always have about 100 to 120 people show up, and we’ve had as many as 160 attend. It just depends if any of the previous graduating classes hold their reunion in conjunction with the homecoming weekend.”

The Orangefield Homecoming event is traditionally held on the second Saturday of June each year. The gathering provides plenty of opportunities for fellowship and sharing fond memories, whether the person is a recent graduate or a returning regular attendee.

“The event originally started with just the graduates, but then it grew to include members of the faculty and even residents of Orangefield,” Nixon explained. “It has kind of turned into a community event, but it’s still mostly attended by graduates of Orangefield High School.”

The Orangefield Cormier Museum will open at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, for guests to enjoy to free tours. The museum will close for lunch and reopen shortly after that before closing at 2 p.m.

“We’re looking forward to the event and we always have a pretty good time,” Nixon stated. “It’s a lot of fun and it’s good to see everyone again, or, in some cases, for the first time.”
