Vidor Police Department recognized as an Accredited Law Enforcement Agency

Vidor PD received the “ Accredited Law Enforcement Agency” award from the Texas Police Chiefs Association Law Enforcement Accreditation Program on Oct 21.

The Accreditation Program began in 2006 and has since evaluated a Police Department’s compliance with over 182 Best Business Practices for Texas Law Enforcement. These best practices were developed by Texas Law Enforcement professionals to deliver effective and efficient services.

These practices cover all aspects of police work including the use of force, protection of citizen rights, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management and patrol and investigative operations.

“I was like eating an elephant, one bite at a time.” said Chief of Police, Rod Carroll. “It took us 2 years to achieve it by putting policies in place and making sure that what we were doing was to their level. Many things we were already doing but were not checking all the boxes on what they wanted to gain that accreditation.”

This process required the Vidor Police Department to conduct a self-review of the agency’s policies, procedures, facilities and operations. The process began in May 2021 to become an “Accredited Law Enforcement Agency”. After the internal review is completed an outside audit is requested and conducted. The on-site review is conducted by Police Chiefs from other areas of the state of Texas. The results are sent to the Texas police chief association accreditation committee for final analysis.

Vidor is the first agency in the Southeast Texas region to receive this recognition.

“ I’m very appreciative to my officers, because if they had to get out of their comfort zone and do a lot of work , but I’m very appreciative of city council for allowing us to do this,” said Chief Carroll.
