Edna Bowman Mahaffey

Edna Bowman Mahaffey, 83, of Hartburg, Texas, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, March 11, 2017.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Dorman Funeral Home; Reverend Damon Bickham of the First Baptist Church – Deweyville will be officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, beginning at 12:00 PM until service time.  Rite of Committal and Interment will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Ridgeway Cemetery, in Sulphur Springs, Texas.

Edna was born on Sunday, October 22, 1933, to Charlsie Eunice (Byrd) and Olin R. Bowman, in Ringgold, Georgia.  In 1994, Edna moved from Houston, Texas, to Hartburg, Texas, where she and her husband of 52 wonderful years, Noble Cyril Mahaffey,Jr., remained following retirement.  Edna was a Christian woman of the Baptist faith and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Deweyville, Texas.  Edna was a graduate of Chattanooga Business College, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she received top honors before beginning her career of 42 years, with Brown and Root, as a secretary.  She also volunteered with Kindergarten children in the Deweyville Elementary school and worked with the Orange County Seniors Group, and the Newton County Seniors Group.  Edna was a wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, who will be missed by all who knew her.

Preceding Edna in death are her parents; daughter, Odessa Lee Mahaffey; son Richard Carlson “Ricky” Mahaffey; and sisters, Alma Vaughn, Talitha Wallace, and Margaret Chalmers.

Edna is survived by her devoted husband, Noble Cyril Mahaffey, Jr; loving grandchildren and caretakers, Victoria Tolbert and her husband, Michael, and Anthony Dixon, and Zachary Trahan;  daughter, Janice Lee Johnson and her husband, Edward, of Henderson, Texas; sons, Larry Hill and his wife, Julie, of Bakersfield, California, John E. Hill and his wife, MaryAnn, of Houston, Texas, and Randolph Thomas Hill and his wife, Laura, of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Betty Lomax and her husband, Robert, of Houston, Texas, and Beatrice Presley and her husband, Bobby, of Ringgold, Georgia; brothers Jacob Bowman of Ringgold, Georgia, and Melvin Bowman and his wife, Beverly, of Rock Springs, Georgia; grandson, Zachary Trahan; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Honoring Edna as Pallbearers are Michael Tolbert, Zachary Trahan, Anthony Dixon, Randy Hill, Edward Johnson, and John Hill.
