A Southeast Texas Air Rescue Helicopter was forced to delay takeoff after a drone was in its air space this past weekend. The helicopter was there to save a 2-year-old who was suffering from cardiac arrest after almost drowning.
The incident occurred near Orange Field Road on Chimney Rock Drive at around 4:00. Parents were performing CPR after they fell in a pool before First Responders arrived. The Child is still in the hospital and expected to survive.
Helicopter pilots must always check with the FAA to be clear about takeoff. The rise in the popularity of personal-use drones has caused this to become a greater issue in recent years.
The first responders were able to locate the drone pilot and have him willingly land their drone and have the helicopter take off safely.
The Drone pilot has been identified but charges have not been made.
