Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Each year The Orange Leader publishes the top 10 stories of the year. With the aid of analytics from its website, we were able to quickly see which stories were there most read over 2021.

We knew Ask Rusty would be in the top 10 as we watched the story get read over and over for days. While the column runs online only each week, we were not expecting it to generate over 110,000 page views.

From advice to faith to crime, the range of stories was surprising. Not the ones we, the staff, would have selected.

It was a surprise to hear KOGT was closing. Gary Stelly, I personally wish you the best as you enter the next adventure. You are well loved and Orange County appreciates all you have done as the Voice of Orange County over the years.

Seeing 2021 come to and end, I brace for 2022 and what it will bring. As another strand of COVID emerges and the numbers of possibly infected is on the rise, again, I noticed the percentage of vaccinated in Orange County remains at 38.65%. Am I the only one watching that number?

Traditionally, this is the time to wrote down those pesky resolutions that we know will be forgotten by week three of the new year.

A 2020 Finder survey found that an estimated 188 million Americans planned to make resolutions to carry them into 2021. Similar numbers of people likely will put personal goals on the calendar this year. Are you one of them? What are your resolutions?

May 2022 be a better year for all. Happy New Year from the staff of The Orange Leader.

Time to talk politics

As a service to the community, we will publish letters of introduction from the candidates to run on the Opinion page as submitted. This allows voters an opportunity to learn more about each candidate so citizens can make an informed decision when they are at the polls.

If you are running for an office, voters want to hear from you.

Letters should be approximately 550 – 750 words and the candidate will need to submit a photo and the article in a word .doc to dawn.burleigh@orangeleader.com
